The district surrounding Sale has strong employment in dairy, vegetable and timber industries with Maffra being the home of Murray Goulburn and Heyfield having a state-of-the-art timber mill. Bairnsdale is 45 minutes north of Sale and is the home of Patties Foods (Four and Twenty Pies) and One Harvest as well as a hospital and a strong retail sector.
