The Shire of Wellington is well serviced by the Central Gippsland Health Service www.cghs.com.au and Yarram District Health Service www.gha.net.au/ydhs/ . Serving a population of 42,000 the Central Gippsland Health Service has almost 900 staff and operates a major Hospital in Sale. The hospital provides all levels of medical services with a total of 62 acute beds. Acute services include General Surgical plus specialties such as Orthopaedics, Urology, Eye, Ear Nose and Throat,Gynaecology,General Medical with specialty support for Gastroenterology, Repiratory, Cardiac and Critical Care Services, a 24/7 Accident and Emergency Department, and Level Two Neo-Natal Nursery, Obstetrics, Paediatrics and maternity facilities. Yarram District Health Service is a 50 bed facilty. The Health Service provides acute care, residential care and an extensive range of community based services to a catchment population of 6,500.

Bairnsdale Hospital, www.brhs.com.au 40 minutes north of Sale is slightly smaller. Bairnsdale Regional Health service has 700 staff. The Latrobe Regional Hospital, www.lrh.com.au 1 hour south of Sale by road is larger and provides an extended range of medical services and a broad range of consulting specialists. Helimed1, one of three medically equipped helicopters managed by the Metropolitan Ambulance Service, is based at Latrobe Regional Airport and provides rapid medical evacuation if required. The Central Flying School at East Sale RAAF Base also has a medically equipped helicopter for ADF use and as a back up to Helimed1

ADF FAMILY HEALTH PROGRAM

The ADF Family Health Program rolled out nationally on 1 January 2014. The program is proving popular with ADF families with 42,000 dependants nationally and 500 dependants from East Sale currently accwssing the program benefits.
